In June 2025, the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare launched a free to access, new module called Nature and Healthcare. This module was commissioned by, and developed in partnership with Healthcare Ocean and RSK.
In this module we explore how human health and the healthcare sector depend on nature, outline the factors contributing to the decline of nature and explain how unequal access to nature and exposure to pollution are widening health inequalities. We highlight how the healthcare sector is contributing to nature degradation, why we should take a leadership role in helping nature to thrive and then look at what we could be doing about it, describing practical actions clinical, estates and procurement teams can take and introducing a three-part framework to guide planning focusing on:
- Our nature footprint
- Nature restoration
- People and nature
Finally, we will invite you to form your own plan of action to help nature flourish and support good health for us all.
