Nature Recovery Ranger – Stockport and Tameside & Glossop
Who is the ranger?
Our ranger based in Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust/Stockport NHS Foundation Trust (jointly) is Matt Ross. Find out more about Matt in this blog.
Which sites are covered?
Matt is hosted by Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust/Stockport NHS Foundation Trust (jointly). The trusts joined the Healthy by Nature project in April 2026.
What are the plans for the different sites?
Matt is working at two sites: Tameside General Hospital and Stepping Hill Hospitals.
At Tameside, he is currently working on a project to increase the biodiversity and accessibility of the lovely Bluebell Corner. He’ll be working with volunteers to clear scrub and plant wildflowers. He hopes to make some trails to guide staff and visitors around the green spaces on site and will be running activities including a BioBlitz.
Stepping Hill has less green space on site, but there are still some wonderful pockets! To begin with, Matt is going to be working to develop and improve two lovely courtyard gardens attached to the Acute Frailty and Stroke units. He also hopes to create a wildflower meadow for staff to use in an underutilised green space next to the canteen.
At both sites he plans to engage with staff to make the most of green spaces for themselves, and for the patients they work with becoming embedded over time in the hospitals’ practice.
