Torbay Hospital provides a range of services, from A&E to maternity and cancer services. It joined the NHS Forest in 2019 and has created a wildlife nature area with 160 trees sponsored by The Great Outdoor Gym Company.

The scheme has been designed by hospital’s in-house gardening team who planned the two circular habitats to encourage wildlife, improve the aesthetics of the hillside and reduce the need to mow as frequently. The map below shows suggested walks at the site.

In 2021, the trust planted 100 trees to form hedgerows. Collette Gemon, Environment and Site Services Manager, said, “It is great having these trees, it allows so much scope to help rejuvenate the estate, replacing trees which are naturally lost to disease or cut back as a result of development.”
