Midlothian Community Hospital joined the NHS Forest in 2022. The site has a wide range of natural spaces from courtyards and balconies used by in-patients and staff through to a well established community garden well used and loved by local residents.
The Community Garden is run by the Cyrenians to grow food, build communities and improve health and wellbeing. It is open every day to members of the public, with volunteer and groupwork programmes running on weekdays.
The Cyrenians teams deliver gardening outreach sessions on hospital wards and provide placement opportunities for students in Allied Health Care settings, Horticulture, Garden Design and Outdoor Education.
At the Community Gardens we focus on welcoming people experiencing mental or physical health problems, disadvantage, isolation or poverty. The gardens offer people fantastic opportunities to grow food, socialise and improve general health and wellbeing
