The hospice have recently completed a landscaping project which has redeveloped existing gardens as well as reclaimed barren land. They have a combination of lawns and flowerbeds which are planted with a mix of perennials, shrubs, spring bulbs and annuals. They also have a sensory garden, wildlife meadow, woodland, memorial ‘Life for a Life’ woodland, orchard, children’s play area, kitchen garden and greenhouse, as well as plenty of trees and shrubs. The site has wide accessible paths, dedicated seating areas and plenty of benches around the site to give all users options on using the gardens. The new landscaping project has put their wellbeing facilities at the heart of the garden, with wellbeing visitors encouraged to use the outside space. All rooms in the end of life Inpatient Unit have direct access to the gardens, as well as windows looking out onto the gardens. Patients are able to access the gardens in their beds, and relatives are encouraged to use the gardens. Many staff offices look out onto the gardens, and staff use the gardens to eat, have meetings or take a break.
