Darwin Nurseries and Farm Shop provides therapeutic day care activities for people with learning disabilities and or mental health challenges. We do this on a 7.5 acre site, where co-workers can choose to work in horticulture, animal care or the farm shop.
We have a wildlife meadow, orchard, permaculture beds where we grow cut flowers, seasonal fruit and vegetables and raised beds so people with limited mobility can access growing spaces. There are two large polytunnels, a greenhouse for plant production and a plant nursery for sales to the public. Also, our animal care area is very popular with both co-workers and the public. We have goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens and ducks. The Farm Shop and cafe are open to the public seven days a week. We also have a wooded picnic area with children’s activities and hobbit house.
Co-workers are at the centre of all we do. By engaging each person in therapeutic activity that promotes independence and mindfully enables them to be active members of our local community. Darwin Nurseries and Farm Shop has been a valuable part of the local community for over 27 years and we continue to promote therapeutic horticulture and animal care in our community.
