The Cromwell Road Resource Centre joined the NHS Forest in 2022. Located at the rear of the centre is the ‘Potting Shed’ growing area which contains an irrigation system and growing tunnels. The centre’s team of volunteers maintain the grounds, and nurture the plants and trees. There are over 200 native species for planting across the Care Plus Group Estate.
The Potting Shed’s tree nursery and polytunnels are used to grow fruit and vegetables as well as to develop a large stock of trees and shrubs, all cared for by the volunteers. The centre is working with the NHS Forest to plant an additional 800 saplings. Staff have seen the increased biodiversity, with the trees creating habitats for all kinds of wildlife – from squirrels and bats, to bees, owls and woodpeckers.
The Care Plus Group’s service users benefit from being in nature and our grounds are an extension of the centres, providing a therapeutic environment for all.
