The Airedale Centre for Mental Health joined the NHS Forest in 2024. The main courtyard at the centre has an outdoor gym for service users and has also been transformed into a garden and allotment through the addition of planters. Gardening groups take place across the wards at least once a week starting off with potting on the wards and then leading to planting seeds for plants, herbs and vegetables outside. Other activities include plant identification, discussions around our local nature and what we are growing, bird box painting and nature walks which incorporate the five pathways to nature.
The team at the centre aim to begin taking service users who are involved in these groups to their local trust allotment so once discharged they can continue to take part in horticultural therapy through our community mental health teams.
