We’re excited to announce the launch of our free educational module, “Nature and Healthcare,” developed in partnership with Healthcare Ocean and RSK. This module is designed to support healthcare professionals to understand how health and healthcare delivery are dependent on nature, how our current practices are contributing to its decline and practical steps we can take in the healthcare setting to support nature recovery.

Why learn about nature and healthcare?

Human health depends on the natural world. From the clean air, water and nutritious food we all need for health to the compounds for the medicines we prescribe, nature provides many of the factors important for health and healing. Unfortunately, we are seeing incredibly high rates of biodiversity loss and environmental damage that directly threaten health outcomes and worsen health inequalities. Research shows that communities with limited access to green spaces and those exposed to higher levels of pollution experience poorer health outcomes including increased risks of respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

How can healthcare support nature?

Whilst the healthcare sector contributes significantly to climate change, resource consumption and waste production, it is also uniquely positioned to lead positive change.

Our new module introduces a practical three-part framework for health professionals to design interventions to support nature recovery for health:

  1. Understanding Our Nature Footprint
  2. Nature Restoration
  3. People and Nature

Take action

The module provides tailored guidance for clinical teams, estates managers, and procurement specialists. By completing this free module, you will have a clear understanding of the challenges of supporting nature as well as practical actions you can take to make a difference.

The module is delivered online via our learning platform and can be completed in your own time. It has been created by experts in the field and is completely free of charge.
