Nick White, our Liverpool ranger recently took part in BBC Children in Need’s DIY SOS. The television event was led by presenter Nick Knowles and took place at the Joshua Tree in Northwich. The Joshua Trees is an independent charity that supports families affected by childhood cancer. Hundreds of trades people and members of the community converged on the Joshua Tree in rural Cheshire in September to take on the challenge of building a 375m² extension. This will double the number of families the centre can help, providing vital practical, emotional and social support via expanded therapy, play and relaxation areas which are designed to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.

Nick White lives in Cheshire and saw getting involved in DIY SOS as a meaningful way of giving back to the community. Joining the DIY SOS effort and working with other volunteers to create new therapeutic green spaces at the Joshua Tree reflects his commitment to improving lives and the environment. Nick said: “Accessible green spaces don’t just transform the landscape, they change lives. Working together for a cause like the Joshua Tree shows how trades people and community can come together to help support families during their toughest times.”

This special episode of DIY SOS, will highlight the collective efforts of volunteers and celebrate a new chapter for the Joshua Tree as it continues to support vulnerable families. It is set to be broadcast during BBC Children in Need Appeal week, on Friday 14 November 2025.
