At the NHS Forest we have been busy recording all the tree planting that our sites have been doing since this winter’s planting season started in November 2013, and adding these to the forest total. Our tree counter has now reached 36,000 trees which is a great achievement.
Many of the new trees were planted on NHS Sustainability Day, as part of a campaign to plant two trees at 2pm, with nearly 50 sites getting involved in planting. Sites such as Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust and Airedale Hospital each planted over 300 trees.
A number of new sites joined the NHS Forest this year including:
- Aintree Hospital, which has an adjacent bluebell woodland, has planted 900 trees
- Warwick Hospital, which planted eight trees for NHS Sustainability Day
Many of our sites have continued to develop their green spaces with innovative and new ideas. See our full list of NHS Forest sites and browse the country map to find out more.
