Green Health Routes – North East
Our Green Health Routes initiative in the North East has been developed to help everyone get outside and enjoy the fresh forest air. We have designed routes in two Forestry England owned forests – Chopwell Wood and Guisborough Forest – to encourage people to engage with their local wild space.
Spending time in green spaces has been proven to boost physical and mental wellbeing. However, it’s not always easy to know where to go, especially if you have mobility concerns or lack confidence in going out into the woods alone. That’s why we developed these routes to help take the guesswork out of being in nature.
Whether someone is looking for a gentle woodland stroll, a chance to spot wildlife, or some social time outside with others, we want everyone to feel at home in the forest.
Select one of the options below to find out more about walking routes at Chopwell Wood and Guisborough Forest.
We also have a range of resources available and a calendar of events.
Finally, we’d love your feedback about the project. Sharing your thoughts helps us to design better projects in the future.

This project has been made possible thanks to support from Sport England, The National Lottery and Forestry England.
