The Royal Stoke site has numerous green spaces available for patients, visitors and colleagues to enjoy.
A significant proportion of the site is a dedicated ‘No Mow’ area with a meadow established using donated wildflower seeds to enhance biodiversity and encourage wildlife and pollinators.
Elsewhere they have established a wooded area, and in 2024 50 sapling trees were planted provided by NHS Forest.
Their skilled gardening team have created green spaces and courtyards filled with a variety of flowers and bushes. On-site greenhouses have enabled propagation methods (cuttings and seeds) and splitting mature plants.
Their rehabilitation garden provides therapy for theircritical care, trauma and long-term patients; connecting with nature reduces anxiety and delirium and enhances recovery.
They hold ‘wellbeing and biodiversity walks’ for colleagues to get outside and appreciate their green spaces. Breaks outside are actively encouraged.
They have engaged a local artist to design a heritage-inspired art installation incorporating their outdoor spaces.
