We have a beautiful site on a hill in Stanmore, but many trees were taken down some years ago for the new building, and there are now new theatres being built in the middle of the site where there was a wide open green space. There is a small lake and an orchard, as well as bee hives, and there are allotments which staff can use but these are not accessible for patients. There is a Horatio’s Garden (but this is exclusively for the spinal cord injury patients).
I work with chronic pain patients and there is no suitable outdoor space for them to relax or to practise gardening. The more mobile patients can walk to the lake but this is downhill and uneven.
