Tree planting took place at the Royal Bolton Hospital in March 2012, with support from the Red Rose Forest, which supplied many of the trees, and the Woodland Trust.

Gary Bickerstaff, health improvement specialist at the Royal Bolton Hospital, said: “We’re delighted to be able to take part in the NHS Forest project. It is well documented that being close to nature is good for everyone as well as being good for nature.”

The first of the trees have been planted by the Churchill Unit, which cares for patients with cancer. The tree planting is the start of a green project at the hospital.
