Addenbrooke’s Hospital, at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is a leading teaching hospital providing both acute and specialist care. The hospital joined the NHS Forest in 2012 after taking part in a tree planting event on the first NHS Sustainability Day.
CUH supported the day with various activities to raise awareness of their Sustainability Programme’s vision of “taking action for a sustainable future.” A cherry tree was planted to celebrate the achievements of their Think Green Award winners of 2011. The trust’s Think Green Campaign was launched in 2009 to promote sustainability to staff, partners and the community.
CUH planted two whitebeam trees on NHS Sustainability Day in 2014 in recognition of the work of the 2013 Think Green Award Winners. Those responsible for sustainability at the trust also delivered a presentation at a local Age UK conference, focusing on the ongoing sustainable development work at the trust, and how older people’s forums in the Cambridge area might be able to contribute.
The Think Green sustainability team provided internal staff communications and information on public plasma screens. This focused on the importance of sustainability and how everybody should be involved in helping to reduce environmental impacts. CUH’s staff were invited to provide ideas on how to be more sustainable at work which were shared in a leaflet.
