Lantra, the land-based sector skills council, believes that the report underlines the importance of well-funded parks. Lantra’s horticulture, landscaping and sports turf manager David Winn said: ‘Poor mental health costs the UK around £2.6 billion a year. It’s important that the Government should invest money in keeping parks in good condition.’
A new report from the UK body for public health specialists has found that parks aren't just good fun, they are also good for the nation's health.
The report by the Faculty of Public Health, entitled ‘The Great Outdoors’, says parks are essential for mental wellbeing. And they are more effective than drugs, when it comes to tackling common children’s conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), because of the physical activity involved.
