This is very much a fledgling idea within the NHS Forest project but could prove to be an important component once trusts begin to identify ways in which they can reduce their carbon emissions and meet the targets in the Carbon Reduction Strategy.
One idea is that land on or nearby to NHS estates could be used to plant coppiced woodfuel for biomass boilers installed within the healthcare centre or for use by the local community. It is thought that land previously used for collieries maybe particularly suitable.
The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare have set up a woodfuel working group to identify and share ideas for woodfuel within the NHS Forest. If you have experience in this area we would welcome your input – do send us ideas or contact us to join the group.
